We’ve spent the last nine days away from the internet (which has been nice), hence the first trip update. We left the village this morning and are in San Salvador at the home of our friends the Rosales’, who run Fundacion SueƱos. Outside, a thunderstorm rages, very typical of afternoons here. It has rained every day except one since we’ve been here. Nevertheless, everything in El Sunza was even better than we had hoped for. We felt very much a part of the community by the time we left this morning. Here are the trip stats…More details to come when we get home:
-7 days of work = 1 new house
-18 rolls of film shot by the kids of El Sunza
-10 straight days that have included a combination of eggs, beans, tortillas and vegetables. The food has been great – mostly local village fare that we bought and cooked ourselves
-11 people in one small pickup…the way we roll
- 60 centavos to buy my lunch today
-20+ hours spent playing soccer with the kids
- 7 new spanish songs learned (with hand motions)
We’re headed to Playa El Tunco to unwind at the Pacific Ocean before heading back to the Austin. We’ll see you soon. Love, Tim
